Dementia or Depression?

Did you know that what appears to be dementia in particularly older adults can actually be depression. A neurocognitive assessment can help determine to what extent difficulties with thinking skills is actually dementia (such as alzheimers) or depression or a combination of both.

What is a Concussion?

A concussion occurs when an individual's head is struck by enough force so that the brain slides around. When this happens minimal damage can be caused resulting in the symptoms of a concussion (concentration /memory problems, headaches, nauseau, etc.). This damage is caused either by mild shearing or tearing of brain tissue or when the brain hits up against the skull. A diagnosis is made by the type of difficulties the individual exhibits. Usually concussions are short lived, but they can be serious if symptoms don't clear up after a few days or when a series of concussions occur and the brain does not have enough time to recover between each one.
